Chan Gailey (above), William Alexander and John Heisman are the only Tech coaches to not have a losing season during their first three seasons.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins were given permission to interview Tech Head Coach Chan Gailey by Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich.
Gailey was passed over as a finalist for the Steelers job, but was given a second interview as the finalist for the Dolphins job.
Gailey is a finalist for the position along with former Atlanta Falcons coach Jim Mora and current San Diego offensive coordinator Cam Cameron with a decision on Gailey's fate to come within the coming days.
Gailey became the eleventh head coach in Tech football history when he took the position on December 29, 2001. In five seasons with the Jackets, Gailey has guided his team to an overall record of 37-27, while leading his team to a bowl game in each of his five seasons. Tech was not Gailey's first coaching job as he had spent multiple years in the college and pro ranks.
Gailey's college stops include Troy University, where he won a national championship, and he also steered the football program for Samford University for one season. Gailey has also served as an assistant for Florida and Air Force throughout his career. Gailey is also no stranger to the pro game.
He spent two years as the Dallas Cowboys head coach and made stops in Pittsburgh, Miami and Denver as an assistant coach. Gailey has spent a total of 17 years coaching in the college ranks and 16 years coaching in the pros.
While at Tech, Gailey has coached numerous All-ACC and All-American candidates. Also, with the help of defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta, Tech has boasted one of the stingiest defenses in college football for the past several seasons.
Several games define the Gailey era at Tech including road wins against Miami and Auburn in 2005 as well as playing in the ACC championship game this past December.
