The Bulldogs Heisman candidate quarterback Matthew Stafford recently journeyed to New York City for the Heisman Trophy ceremony, but only received one vote.

"I thought that Matthew was the best player in the country, and a great representative of the best that U[sic]GA has to offer to college football," said former Heisman Trophy running back Herschel Walker, who used his one vote on Stafford.

While many Bulldog fans were disappointed with his lonely vote, Stafford's five touchdowns to 12 interceptions along with the Bulldogs 7-6 record after losing in the Independence Bowl were not enough to sway voters to cast their ballots for Stafford.

"I thought he had a great season, and will be leading us to many, many national championships to come," U[sic]GA alumnus Harry Sax continued, "I remember making many long trips in my pickup truck to watch him play in high school. I knew even then that he would be something special."

Stafford was not able to get a seat on the front row with Heisman finalists Troy Smith, Brady Quinn and Calvin Johnson.

However, he was able to commandeer a seat in the back of the room.

"It was very diffcult to find a seat at the New York City Downtown Athletic Club. None of the guards would let me in because they did not know who I was," Stafford said.

Since he is a freshman, Stafford will most likely try to use his three remaining years of eligibility to earn the coveted trophy multiple times.
