Junior George Gvelesiani, a native of Norcross, Ga., sat down to talk about the individual and team portions of the 2006-2007 season.
The men's tennis team ended their fall 2006 season at the Crimson Tide Championships by recording six wins in Alabama.
George Gvelesiani and Scott Blackmon both won matches against their opponents.
"In those matches, we only had four guys there. UAB and Miami had full rosters and played well. I look at them as opportunities to play against tough guys," said Gvelesiani.
In doubles, Jordan DeLass teamed with Luke Rassow-Kantor to earn a victory while Scott Blackmon teamed with Alabama player Saketh Mynemi to defeat a duo from University of Alabama-Birmingham.
"Until February, we will need practice, practice, and more practice. Our main goals include staying healthy and studying," Gvelesiani said.
The spring season is a more team-focused type of competition. Tech will play against several non-conference opponents before taking the court against all 11 ACC foes.
"The fall season is when the individual guys work on their stuff. Every fall, we get to play in individual tournaments and play against the toughest guys. Every fall, we look at these matches as great opportunities to prepare for the spring," Gvelesiani said.
One of the key additions to the men's team this season has been Eric Molnar, a senior transfer from the University of Colorado.
"The spring will be very team-oriented. We brought in a new guy [Molnar] and he blended in easily. The next season looks really good [for us] playing as a team and playing together," Gvelesiani said.
The team has high hopes for the the upcoming spring season.
"Our main goal is to make the national tournament. I believe that we have a really good team," Gvelesiani said.
