On Saturday, Erina Patterson, one of Tech's football cheerleaders, was injured while performing a routine stunt during the game.

Without a steady base, Patterson lost her balance and landed on the ground. She hit her head on the Astroturf and appeared to be unconscious.

While most of the student section looked on, Patterson was treated by on-site paramedics and carried off the field to be treated for possible concussion and shock.

"[Patterson] was taken to the hospital Saturday night as a precaution, but she was released with no neurological symptoms," said Allison George, director of communication for Tech.

Sources close to the victim have also stated that she only suffered from mild neck pain and slight bruising.

No major injuries were sustained as a result of the impact. Patterson has, however, been wearing a neck brace to ease the pain.

Cheerleading coach Mindy Whire stated that Patterson has been practicing with the team since Tuesday.

Patterson is a second year Managment major and it is her second year on the football cheerleading squad. Patterson is expected to perform with the rest of the team at Tech's next football game.

The Jackets will be the homecoming opponent for the Clemson Tigers in Death Valley on Saturday, Oct. 21. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN starting at 7:45 p.m.
