A few of the outstanding Jacket softball players received national and local recognition. Announced last week, Whitney Haller and Amy Hosier received honorable membership to the Easton-Bell All-America team.

Haller achieved second-team honors in her first season of collegiate softball. Hosier earned All-American honors for the second consecutive season.

Also, Savannah Brown, Haller and Hosier recently earned recognition for the NFCA Southeast All-Region team.

Hosier impressed the judges with record-breaking stats, including a .513 on base percentage and 52 walks. The standout senior had a .370 batting average, to rank third in the conference. Hosier also hit career-best numbers in the home run and RBI categories. Hosier earned first-team honors for the All-ACC and All-Region teams.

Catcher Brown also hit over .300. Brown hit 11 home runs in 46 runs for the Jackets. The sophomore made second team membership.

Freshman sensation Haller has plenty to celebrate. Haller was named ACC Freshman of the Year and broke conference records, including home runs (24), RBIs (72), total bases (171), slugging percentage (.799), and saves (6). The first baseman stands at second in RBIs and third in home runs. The all-around player made first-team honors for the All-Region team.

Junior Caitlin Lever was named Tech Student-Athlete of the Week Mon. May 22, 2006. Lever led the Tech softball team to its second straight NCAA Regional Championship Game.

She hit successfully and consecutively in the last seven regular season games. Furthermore, she posted a .462 batting average, one homer, and five RBIs in the regional tournament.
