Last weekend, Tech’s track and field team hosted the Yellow Jacket Invitational, a single day outdoor event. The Jackets host just two meets this season, so the on-campus event offered fans a rare look to watch some track and field competition in person.

Men

Sophomore Jerome Miller finished first in the high jump and set an NCAA region standard with a mark of 6 feet, 10.75 inches. Freshman Juan Cave claimed the spot behind Miller, finishing second in the event with a mark of 6 feet, 8.75 inches.

Eric Massey and Nico Shaner each accomplished personal records in their respective competitions. Massey finished third in the hammer throw, setting an NCAA mark of 198 feet 7 inches. Shaner finished second in the javelin throw with a toss of 206 feet, 11 inches.

Andy Powlen finished sixth in the men’s shot put with a NCAA region mark of 55 feet, 11.75 inches.

Women

The women were led by the two All-American Seniors Andriane Lapsley and Brandy Depland.

Lapsley brought home two first place finishes, capturing the top spot in the 100m and 200m dashes. She clocked times of 11.37 and 23.23 seconds respectively.

Depland also captured two events for the Jackets as she won the long jump and the triple jump. Depland posted a mark of 19 feet 4 inches in the long jump and a NCAA Region qualifying mark of 42 feet, 9.75 inches.

Freshman Mellany Stanislaus finished right behind Depland, taking second place in the jump with a mark of 41 feet, 0.5 inch.
