Freshman Chris Ewald swam in the 200-yard butterfly in the bonus finals last week during the Men’s ACC Championships in Maryland.
The men’s swimming and diving team rounded out an impressive performance during the ACC Championships in College Park, Md./ Feb. 22-25. The Jackets ended their season on a high note, edging out Clemson and North Carolina State to finish in fourth place.
The championships ended with Virginia wining its eighth-straight ACC title with a total of 694 points. Florida State came in second with 685.5 points and North Carolina earned third with 496.5. Tech landed fourth with 371 points and was followed by N.C. State (362), Virginia Tech (334.5), Clemson (293), Maryland (222.5), Duke (99), Boston College (70) and Miami (37).
Freshman Greg Tunning commented about the event. “We had lost to both N.C. State and Clemson in our dual meets with them earlier in the season, so it was pretty fulfilling to come out of the meet in front of them,” he said.
“Not many people thought we were going to be able to do that. The meet for us was really a team effort. We were able to hold off really strong teams and finish in fourth place,” Tunning said.
