YOUR VIEWS Letters to the Editor
UtC provides great sounds
I am writing this letter on behalf of Under the Couch, which was recently lambasted in a review entitled "Passion Restored to Punk: Ever Since the Radio Launches Southeast Tour at UtC."
The author of said article had this to say: "Let's face it, Under the Couch is not the world's greatest place to play. Some of the bands that play there say that the acoustics are really bad."
If Under the Couch truly is such an acoustic monstrosity, why would the A Cappella Club use it repeatedly for performances? And these alleged complaints from "some bands" lack substantiation. Who are these unnamed bands and why haven't they vocalized their complaints to the people that run the soundboard?
UtC is run by Musicians' Network; we book the bands, we advertise, and we run the shows, with some help from members of the administration and staff. UtC has at its disposal a mixer, amps, monitors, microphones, compressor, among other things, all industry-standard models, which are used to achieve the best possible sound at every show. And Micah Dalton, who is becoming quite famous in the Southeast, commented that we ".do great with the mix.which is a rare commodity in the independent music world."
This concert that you obviously enjoyed, unnamed author, was free-just like every show at UtC is for Tech students. So if you're looking for your definition of "good acoustics" maybe you should shell out the $20 bucks to go to a "real" venue.
And don't even get me started on how "punk" Ever Since the Radio is.
