North campus parking deck project set for March 2001 finish

By March of next year, North campus will have a parking deck that holds more cars than the Curran deck that is on West Campus.
Construction has already begun on a new parking deck that will be located on Peachtree Place, and between State Street and Atlantic Drive.
The new deck will have over 850 spaces, and should be completed by March of next year.
The North Campus deck will be the first part of Auxiliary Service's plan to build a new parking deck every three years. The next will be the 500 space deck planned as part of SAC II.
When completed, the deck will be four levels high and three parking bays across, and will use the Buzz Card to allow entrance.
It will hold 857 spaces, with parking permits costing the same as other gated lots. Around 100 of the spaces will be set aside for visitor use.
The deck will have the standard Tech appearance for a building, with a brick and concrete exterior. An attendant will be stationed at the entrance to monitor activity.
It is hoped that the series of parking decks will help solve the parking problem students are facing on campus.
The new deck will cost $10 million, which comes to around $11,765 per space.
In addition, Auxiliary Services will have to pay the debt service over the next 20 years, at $880, 000 a year.
"The new spaces are much needed," said Bradley Burks, and undergraduate INTA major.
