Senators consider issues presented at a Graduate Student Senate meeting. Rod Weis, Director of Parking, addressed the Senate this week.
The Graduate Student Senate listened to one presentation and considered three bills this week with prolonged discussion that took up the entire hour.
Rod Weis, the Director of Parking and Transportation, addressed the Senate. A question period followed where he elaborated on the increase in booting and towing of repeat offenders.
These efforts also apply to unregistered vehicles if they have multiple violations. Weis stated that he would like to return to the Senate toward the end of the semester to present the long range plans for parking decks and transportation routes and their place in Tech's master plan.
The Senate then considered the conference committee version of the Ad Hoc SGA Retention Committee's request for a $25,000 allocation to hold a spring concert. The Senate questioned who would be held liable for any shortfall if corporate support is not found or if an insufficient number of tickets are sold. Pending a response the Senate tabled the bill until next week.
A bill calling for an audit of the AASU was then considered. Questions have been raised over past financial improprieties by a past treasurer of the organization. The bill seeks to clarify the current financial position of the organization before a budget of Student Activity Funds is granted. Debate centered on how past audits of clubs have been done, and who would be capable of performing an audit. The Senate passed the bill and appointed a three person committee to investigate possible paths for performing this audit quickly. The committee is comprised of David White, Vijay Nambiar, and Laura Sheppardson.
Finally a bill was considered to financially aid representatives from the Institute of Industrial Engineers in attending a conference. Their allocation was approved after a minor adjustment to the travel allotment.
