At the beginning of this past week's meeting of the Undergraduate House of Representatives, the members were given an update on a few of the committees' current positions.
The IT Committee is currently working with OIT to expand the mail server so that Tech students can check their email from anywhere in the world.
They also constructed the new SGA web page, located at www.cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/sga, and are now making improvements on it.
The current project of the Academic Priorities Committee revolves around making Dead Week dead. The Campus Services Committee has been meeting with food services to discuss the quality of Woodruff. They also reported that there are Industrial Engineering teams in the process of working on the efficiency of the Post Office.
The Planning and Development Committee has determined, from talking with students, that the business most wanted near campus is a Video Rental Store. They are looking into that and other possible businesses. Additionally, they are investigating the West Side Market and why it's not as popular as originally anticipated.
Chris Young, the executive Vice President announced that the following positions are still open in the house: Chemistry, Co-op, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Earth and Atmospheric Science Representatives.
Tyler Brown, President of the Undergraduate Student Body, announced that the total number of students graduating this semester is 1600, which would make commencement over 4 and a half hours long.
Therefore, Spring Commencement will be split into two sessions. One session will be for Graduates and Ph.D.'s and the other will be for Undergraduates.
Allocations were made to the Georgia Tech Swim Club, the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the Georgia Tech Ice Hockey Club, and the Christian Campus Fellowship.
The Council adopted the Conference committee version of the 2000/2001 fiscal year budget, which doesn't allocate any money to AASU, GALA, and the Ferst Center. This could have an effect on the price of student tickets for events at the Ferst Center and the cost for student organizations to use the building.
