The Vice-President of the Graduate Student Government, Dana Johnson, announced his resignation from the position this week.
"I'm sad that I'm leaving. I regret that I was forced to make this decision but it was a personal decision that I think will be best for SGA and the student body," said Johnson.
Johnson, a student in the city planning graduate program, has been offered a planning internship that requires a significant time commitment. He feels that this added time commitment does not provide the time necessary to continue fulfilling his duties in Student Government.
A special election for the position will be held on Monday, October 20. Applications for the position are available in the Student Government office on the first floor of the Student Services building. Candidates must be a full-time graduate student in good standing to run, and must have been enrolled at Tech as a graduate student for at least one term prior to this fall. All graduate students are eligible to vote in the upcoming election.
"I encourage any interested person in applying for the vice-president position to apply. We still have other chair positions available as well," said Caroline Clower, president for the Graduate Student Senate.
Housing Priorities Committee, Intermural Advisory Board, and the Center for the Arts Advisory Board, are other areas with openings.
This announcement follows the similar resignation of Michael Johnson, former Vice-President for the Undergraduate House of Representatives. M. Johnson was replaced this semester by Chris Young.
